The Article on Zee News talks about Slow death of Anna ‘phenomenon ’

While having a bite at lunch, I thought of adding my own two bits, which, under moderators sniff, may or may not be approved. Anyhow, this is what I said:

I see this problem from afar, and can relate to it even on a global scale.

The writer says urbane India is losing enthusiasm for the lokpal movement.

There may not only be a deep truth in that statement, but the sentence itself is an indication towards at least one of the roots of the problem.

Urbane India is a new entity, and its cupboard is not exactly clean. Urbane India not only appears callous about corruption, it appears unconscious of the existence of a non-Urbane segment of India, or relate to its light.

But it is not just urbane India that lives in a parallel world. Even the writer of this article has limits to his vision.

But expanding the issue across the globe one can see how structures that appeared stable for decades are beginning to show cracks in their foundation - challenging the centuries old capitalistic and socialistic views of growth, development, economy, ecology, energy, sustainability and populations. There was a flash in the pan temporarily, about the emergence of the “emerging nations”.

But, just like a cancer that faced a temporary remission but eventually relapses, into a full blown metastasized decease that moves on to other organs and lymph nodes, it is a decease that is cellular and not necessarily imported from external sources. It is in our genes and ultimately, the buck stops at the bottom.

It is the people, of the world, of Asia, and of India - that fail in their civic duty, and fail their respective societies, and Governments.

Don't blame the politicians, or Anna Hazare or anyone in the news. If there is no Gandhi any more, that is because there are no Gandhi-followers left on the ground.

In a democracy, people get the leader it deserves.

It is usually the people's fault that a nation, a civilization and a lifestyle, may be in eclipse and is ultimately driven into decline.
